Boo!! Did I Scare You?

I’m a big fan of Booing!! my neighbors. It’s a fun Halloween Tradition that we all get on board for. Have you participated in this tradition? It’s easy and fun.

What you do is pick two neighbors, friends or family to Boo. It doesn’t have to be in your neighborhood although it is fun to see how far it travels. Choose a way to present your Boo. This can be anything you want. I typically use fun Halloween gift bags with matching tissue. Yes, I stay with a theme. It’s the Type A in me!! :) I saw Boo tins in the bargain section at Target today. You could also use a colored bucket which I have seen at Target, Michaels and even Wal-Mart. You could probably even utilize the  Dollar Store for Boo goodies. Now you want to add some treats. This can be sure bought or homemade. It really depends on what you feel like doing. I typically buy items for each child that lives at the house I choose.

Ideas:

  • Candy
  • Pencils
  • Stickers
  • Homemade treats {be aware of allergies though …}
  • I love the Bargain bin at Target. I picked up some glow sticks and funky sunglasses to add to our bags.

It really is up to you to make it fun and creative. Again, this can be as simple or complicated as you’d like.

You also want to add a Boo sign for the recipient to hang on their front door so that everyone knows they have been booed. You also include a note with directions on how continue on the booing. I have created my own in the past but this year I came across a few super cute pre-made ones on the web. I am sharing my finds with you to start your own Boo!

These are what we are using this year. They are from TomKat Studios. I love the funny little monster.

I also found these over at AndersRuff.

This is also a super cute one from Peaches & Mint. You have to request the actual file from her but it’s worth it.

DIY Fall Wreath

Yes, I do love wreaths. You probably noticed though uh? I saw a version of this on Etsy using only burlap but it had sold. I knew I could whip up my own version. I used a wreath form that cost $1. Of course when I wanted more, the Dollar Store stopped carrying them. Boo! Anyway, a wreath form plus lots of scraps {fabric and burlap} as well as a couple of cute Fall accessories and voila, a fabulous new wreath that is perfect for the Fall season.

It’s pretty easy, cut lots of strips {size depends on how thick your wreath is}. I typically cut a sample size and then use that as my guide to cut several strips. Then tie them around the wreath, around and around and around. You get the idea. I do a double tie so that it stays tied. This is a great way to use of fabric scraps from previous projects and of course you can do this for any occasion.

I have actually made these from tulle as well and they are fun and super easy. They have become my nighttime project for when I am catching up on shows.

White Chip Island Cookies with a Twist

Mmm, mmm, mmm. Cookies. OK, I admit it, I actually make them more for others then for myself. I’m quite proud when my cookie jar is full and even more proud when it is empty :) Means they must have been good! Tonight felt like a cookie kind of night but aside from the basic ingredients, I was searching for that extra something. I was out of my ginourmous bag of Costco chocolate chips {remember the episode from Friends where Monica wanted the cookie recipe and Phoebe thought it was something so amazing and sacred to the family that her grandmother took it to her grave? Turns out it was just good ol’ Nestle Tollhouse!}. Anywho — I had white chocolate chips so I looked on the back of the package for a recipe that I had the ingredients for. I came up with these white chocolate island cookies BUT I threw in a cup of caramel bits. Wowzer! These are yummy.

White Chip Island Cookies {with a secret ingrediant}

Asian Noodle Salad

Isn’t it funny how we go through phases with foods? As of late, I am all about Asian noodle salads. I found the perfect one at Sellands. It was simple and oh so good. Then they stopped making it. Sigh. I was a bit sad. Then I stumbled upon a really good one at the Whole Foods salad bar. Throw in some edamame {I heart salad bars and all that you can add} and I was set. Well, I can’t go out to eat all the time so I started an on-line search and I found one. I could hug The Pioneer Woman. She shares wonderful recipes with great enthusiasm. Now I have made this and people ask me for the recipe. It is great with some chicken or shrimp added in and it makes A LOT. I am not kidding. I joked that I could feed the lunch crowd at La Bou with this recipe! Oh, I also like to thrown in some shelled edamame and peanuts for a little crunch.

Fall Tulle Wreath

I love making wreaths. It’s one of many ways for me to be creative. My favorite wreath as of late is this fluffy beautiful Fall one made of tulle. It took about 7 yards total and I used 4 different colors. Three were matte but then I added in a shiny gold as well. I found the wreath accessories at JoAnn’s. Well, I decided to share this wreath on Facebook and guess what? A friend wanted  it ASAP. So I sold it. Then I went out and bought more materials to make another. Maybe I’ll get to keep this one? ;)

I also made a few other tulle wreaths which I don’t have photos of {I know, my bad}. I made one last year for a craft faire. It was red and white and mimicked a candy cane. I also made one for my son’s ‘girlfriend’ {it’s OK, we are good friends with the parents and they are on board with the whole arranged marriage thing, ha ha}. I went all girly since I don’t get to do that all that often around here. It was full of pinks and purples with a couple of big flowers. It couldn’t have been more girly, seriously. Fluffy tulle plus pinks and purples?

Alright — I’m off to create another wreath now. Have a fabulous day!!

Oh, be sure to head on over to Southern Hospitality Blog. She is having a linky party for outside Fall decor. I didn’t want to be left out so of course I joined ;)

My Fall Buffet Table

I know — I shared some of my Fall decor already but I wanted to focus on my buffet table, I also wanted to join a linky party over at The Lettered Cottage for Fall table decorating ;)

I love this table. It is always so much fun to decorate for holidays. This year I added my Target grapevine pumpkins {several years old but I love them!}, my Pick Your Own Pumpkin was a steal at Eddie Bauer home 11 years ago! Crazy how a piece can still be a favorite so many moons later. I also added the fun little pumpkins in a jar. I think they might have come from Michaels? They are also a few years old. I love the table runner. It was a HomeGoods find from last year. I love that it has the fall colors of orange and brown but adds in the pop of blue.  Isn’t blue such a pretty compliment to orange? I think so! I added in a couple of frames and photos of my cute boys. The bronze frame is an oldie but I just scooped up the orange one at Marshalls this year at the bargain price of $7.99. The photos are actually from Apple Hill which to me is Fall. I have a million pics of my kids there from over the years.
