Trail Mix – a store for nature lovers

Today I decided that I wanted to make a trip to Old Sacramento for Mother’s Day. So with my sister (she often steps in when Steve is at work) and my cute little dudes, we made the journey which is about 30 minutes from EDH. After a Yummy lunch at River City Brewing Company we headed into Old Town. Holly and Ben stumbled upon a store Called Trail Mix (how much do you LOVE that name?). It was a bright space that just pulled you in. They have several fun gifts ideas ranging from ant farms to books on bird watching to a vast amount of information on local hiking spots. I picked up a book by Judy Molland, who resides in the Bay Area. The book is called:  Get Out! 150 Easy Ways for Kids and Grown-Ups to Get Into Nature. I am excited to thumb through this book and share some of the ideas with my family and Local Honey friends.

A couple of great things that I am excited to do upon returning to Trail Mix? They offer a scavenger hunt through Old Town.  Basically you follow the Trail Mix map and answer the riddles — if you answer all of the riddles, you return to Trail Mix and get a free prize. How fun is that? The second thing that I will definitely partake in this summer is their hands-on workshop. They have a large bright room with several tables. They run the work shop like a restaurant which means that you choose your activity off of a “menu”. They have set prices per project that range from a 15 minute Paint-A-Critter for $2.00 to Create a Rock Collection for $19.99. They also offer birthday parties for your little explorer. Also, be sure to check out their calendar for special events.

It was such a treat to find a business so close to home that is trying to bring families together with activities that involve the great outdoors. I was really impressed with the concept and am excited to spread the word. Please visit them at 116B I Street in Sacramento. You can also find them on-line at http://store.trailmix.net/
